Masterclass on Bladder Cancer, 27th – 28th Nov 2021, Patel Hospital, Jalandhar

Cancer has been one of the leading causes of disease-related death for a long time. Among all kinds of cancers, Bladder Cancer is the ninth most common malignancy worldwide, affecting nearly 430,000 people every year. India alone had 18,921 new cases of bladder cancer in 2020, with an incidence rate of 2.4 in males and 0.7 in females per lakh population until 2020. The mortality rate is 1.3 in males and 0.3 in females.

A workshop on bladder cancer was organized by Jalandhar Urology Society under the aegis of Punjab Urology Association at Patel Hospital, Jalandhar.

The main objective of this workshop was to discuss the latest techniques in the treatment of bladder cancer and increase knowledge on various aspects.

This workshop was attended by the experts of Urology from Punjab as well as other states including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.

Dr. TB Yuviraja, Uro Cancer expert from Kokilaben Hospital, Mumbai, Dr. Sudhir Rawal expert from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital, New Delhi, and Dr. Swapan Sood Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon, Patel Hospital, Jalandhar were the workshop directors of this masterclass.

Dr. Swapan Sood shared the information about the benefits of Robotic Surgery during the live surgical demonstration in the workshop; he said through the use of robotic-assisted surgery, surgeons are now able to offer minimally invasive and more precise options for many complex surgical procedures. Beyond precision, robotic surgery comes with a few major benefits, including Lower levels of blood loss and transfusions, shorter stays in the hospital, reduced pain and discomfort, fewer complications, and minimal scarring.

Patel Hospital’s Medical Oncologist Dr. Anubha Bharthuar and Radiation Oncologist Dr. Anchal Aggarwal also talked about the importance of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in the treatment of bladder cancer.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. R. S. Chahal, President Punjab Urology Association, organizing Secretory Dr. Swapan Sood, and Co-organizing Secretary Dr. Kamaljit Singh. Dr. Jasmine Kaur member of the Punjab Medical Council was also presented on this occasion.
Dr. Atul Mittal, President Jalandhar Urology Society thanked all the doctors who attended this workshop on Bladder Cancer.
