DEPARTMENT OF GI/HEPATOBILIARY SURGERY

Laparoscopy has been widely applied to GI Surgery amongst other disciplines. The minimal access not only helps to decrease the overall trauma and pain to the patient but also enables early mobilization and discharge of the patient. Apart from benign and simple conditions like gall stones, hernia etc., surgeries for stomach, colon, rectum, esophagus, and spleen can be done laparoscopically as well.

The next giant leap in the field of minimally invasive GI surgery comes in the form of robotic surgery. With greater degrees of movements, and excellent 3 D visualization, there is little denying that ergonomically, robotic surgery is far superior to conventional laparoscopy.

Robotic surgery serves the twin objective of enabling minimally invasive surgery in maximum number of patients, and providing an ergonomic and comfortable technique to the surgeon. It is being increasingly applied in the field of Gastrointestinal and hepatopacnreatobiliary surgery at various institutions.
