ESOPHAGEAL AND GASTRIC SURGERY (INCLUDING REFLUX SURGERY)
Upper GI surgery which includes surgery for diseases of stomach (gastric) and esophagus forms an important part of the specialty of GI surgery. The majority of surgeries are those performed for cancers of the stomach (gastrectomies) and esophagus (esophagectomies). The extent and approach of the procedure may depend on the location and extent of the disease and may entail partial or total removal of the organ in question.
