The deptt. of Pulmonary Medicine was established in Patel hospital in 2003. from its infancy it has now grown to become a full fledged superspecialist department working in close tandem with the deptt. of Internal Medicine. With the increase in incidence of chest diseases, there is a continuous influx of patients both in OPD & indoor. The profile of patients includes Asthma - mild to severe, tuberculosis, COPD-stable as well as exacerbations, MDR tuberculosis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Renal Disease, LUNG CANCERS & Pleural Diseases to name a few.
All major state-of-art equipment is available in the deptt. such as SPIROMETER for lung function tests, VIDEOBRONCHOSCOPE for visualizing the bronchi endoscopically. Shortly, a high dependency respiratory therapy unit is planned.
Above all, respiratory emergencies are dealt with utmost care, meticulous planning and in a speedy but watchful manner. In the ICU we have the most dependable and high efficiency VENTILATORS to take care of patients with respiratory failure.

The Division of Pulmonary Medicine provides comprehensive care to children and adults with a full spectrum of respiratory disorders and is committed to excellence that is recognized in patient care, education, and advocacy. Care is guided in all age groups by the routine measurements of lung function, including pre-school age testing Disease-specific programs driven by pulmonary faculty include the Asthma, Allergy and Airway Diseases Center and the Sleep-Disordered Breathing Program. Comprehensive multi-disciplinary care is provided by physicians, , nutritionists, physical therapists and social workers.
