About Us
This hospital was started 30 years back in Jallandhar in the year 1976 by an experienced team of a physician and a surgeon, Dr. B.S. Chopra M.D. and Dr. S.K. Sharma M.S. as 20 bedded hospital. With their dedicated hard work in the medical field the hospital has grown to have a number of specialties and culminated in a first private cancer hospital to become fully functional in north India with all Facilities for oncology and cancer surgery. The total bed strength has reached 153 beds out of which 65 beds are only for cancer patients.

Location
Patel hospital is ideally located in the heart of the city in Civil Lines area of Jallandhar spread over in approx 100000 Sq ft. It is about 10 minutes distance form the Bus Stand and Railway station and about 100 meters off the main G.T. Road. With a bed capacity of 153 beds out of which 65 beds are for cancer patients, the hospital has 5 dedicated operation theatres, 8 bedded post operative recovery, 13 bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) , 8 bedded Trauma Unit, 32 deluxe private rooms, 18 private rooms, 16 semi deluxe beds, 16 ward beds with AC and 32 beds in general wards among others.

Department of Medicine
The backbone of the hospital is formed by an excellent Department of Medicine with 4 consultants specializing in different aspects like General Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology and Pulmonology. With a 24 hour emergency all patients of Cerebro-vascular accidents, Brain Hemorrhage, Fever of unknown origin, Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart attacks, Epilepsy and headache are being treated here. Fully equipped with spirometers, Nebulisers, ECG machine, Tread Mill and experienced physicians, the department is able to make early and quick diagnosis in many cases to affect an early recovery and save many lives. As part to promote preventive healthcare, we offer a number of health check up programs suiting different requirement and budgets.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Our Intensive Care Unit is equipped with latest and state-of-the-art facilities, centralized medical gas system and other hospital support system. Beds are equipped with Monitors, Ventilators, Syringe pumps and advance life support including beside dialysis. The equipment configuration and level of medical is equivalent to that of any leading world standards. We have 2.5:1 nurse patient ratio on all beds. It has its own dedicated ultrasound and portable X-ray machine. The bed floor area ratio is maintained at minimum 24 sq. metre per bed.

Department of General and Laparoscopic Surgery
The heart of any hospital is the surgical department. With advanced technological backup and deep experience the department is fully equipped to handle any kind of major and extra major surgeries. Over 10000 Minimally invasive surgeries like laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Laparoscopic hysterectomy, Laparoscopic hernia repair etc. have already been performed. Using state of the art 3 chip digital camera with 19” TFT screens and Xenon Light source, complicated laparoscopic surgeries like laparoscopic adrenalectomy, radical nephrectomy, Splenectomy are performed routinely.
Operation Theatres
Our theatres are equipped to handle special and difficult cases . The unique features such as large size, Laminar flow, air conditioning system etc. ensure low infection rate and faster recovery. Boyles Anesthesia machines, Anasthesia Gas station, Valleylab cautery, Simple Harmonic scalpel, Monitors, Electro hydraulic O.T. Tables and ventilators with central gas supply and a scientific designing are the features which make our O.T. Complex much superior to that in other establishments of this region.
Post operative recovery and ICU:
The key to the success of many complicated operations lies in a good post operative care setup. A post operative room and Intensive therapy unit with ventilators, critical care specialist with dedicated nurses and invasive monitoring systems make sure of the success of the surgery.
Super Specialised Operation Theatres: We have separate super specialty dedicated fully equipped operation theaters for Kidney transplant, Cancer Surgery and Joint replacement.
Department of Nephrology and Kidney Transplant
Our center is running full Nephrology services. Including Haemo Dialysis, CAPD and Kidney Transplant Program.
The Dialysis Center is an advanced facility that offers dialysis in a comfortable environment. We are using State of the art Reverse Osmosis water plant and follow strictly AAM I standards. Hepatitis C positive patients are dialyzed on separate machines and staff. Physicians and Nurse specialists have the capabilities of establishing painless, reliable dialysis access including fistula, graft, Central Catheters and Peritoneal catheters. In addition we have the surgical and radiological skills to troubleshoot and manage difficult access problems.
The Kidney Transplant facility is a dedicated stand alone facility authorized by the Government under the Organ Transplant act for kidney transplants. A complete separate transplant unit is maintained to manage post transplant and pre transplant patients including specially trained nurses and Nurse coordinators. It is the only centre in Punjab having complete onsite facilities for complete and early diagnosis of transplant graft failure and its management including angiography and Nuclear Scan.
Department of Urology
The Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy using Siemens Lithostar Modularis Electromagnetic Lithotripter for non invasive painless kidney stone removal forms the backbone of the kidney stone center. Other modalities like Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy, Ureteroscopy, Flexible Uretroscopy, Mini-PCNL and others also performed routinely.
The Department of Urology is also practicing advanced Laparoscopic Urology for stone disease, Laparoscopic Nephrectomy, Lapascopic Radical Nephrectomy, Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy, etc.
Video-Urodynamics forms the main diagnositic tool for lower urinary tract symptoms. The urodynamics laboratory in the facility performs computerized Cystometery, Voiding Cystometrogram, Uroflowmetry, Urethral profilometry and Electromyography regularly.
With the support of Oncology Department, Urological Oncology has developed recently with facilities for complicated surgeries like Radical Cystectomy, Radical Prostatectomy, Neobladders etc.
Department of Gastroenterology
The Department of Gastroenterology is an advanced unit that has Video Endoscopic Equipment for carrying out procedures like Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Colonoscopies, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography to minimize diagnostic mistakes and maximize treatment benefits. Interventional procedures like Esophageal Varices sclerosing, Sphincterotomies, Esophageal dilatations, polypectomies, Foreign body retrievals, Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainages etc. are done routinely.
Department of Dermatology
One of the most advanced centers in North India the Department of Dermatology features some of the latest treatment modalities in the world like Lasers, Light Heat energy. Department of Orthopedics
Trauma and Emergency: our hospital is equipped to cater all types of Trauma & Emergencies round the clock. Our doctors are available in the hospital 24 hours so as to give prompt treatment to the patient. A special 8 bedded trauma and emergency wing with complete facilities to many poly trauma cases with advanced life support has been created. All kinds of minimally invasive fluoroscopy guided procedures can be undertaken for accurate reduction of fractures and dislocations.
Joint replacement : Total Hip, Total Knee, Shoulder replacements are all carried out in excellent operation theatres with full technical backup. Department of Medical Oncology
Chemotherapy forms mainstay of cancer treatment in many cancers. Special chemotherapy wards and staff trained in specially trained nurses ease the pain and suffering of cancer patients significantly. Special neutropenia wards to manage the side effects of Chemotherapy are provided. The division intends to start Bone marrow transplant as soon as possible to provide world class treatment for blood cancers.
Department of Radiotherapy
A large number of cancer cases require radiotherapy at some stage or the other. Radiotherapy treatment is provided by Siemens Primus Dual Energy Linear Accelerator. Only 38 radiation centers in India have a Linear Accelerator. We are proud to have the latest generation of Linear accelerator for optimum treatment.To make treatment more effective and precise a Virtual Simulation Software and sophisticated Treatment Planning System(only one west of New Delhi) have been installed. Department of Surgical Oncology
This discipline is managed by surgeons specialized in the field of cancer. This is backed by state of art operation theatres and excellent intensive care unit.
Head and Neck Oncologist has specially trained in the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital at Mumbai. All compicated surgeries like laryngectomies, radical neck dissections, thyroidectectomies etc form a staple surgical menu.
Urological surgeon and oncologist with the back up of diagnostics offer comprehensive uro-oncology services. All major uro-oncological surgeries like radical cystectomy, radical prostatectomy, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection are undertaken.
Orthopedic Oncologist offers patients broad range of treatment for bone and joint cancer including cancer of spine. The treatment may include removal of bone and soft tumor sarcoma, limb salvage surgery in cancer of limbs using mega prosthesis. Megaprosthesis is being done at very few centres in the country. Dietetics, Catering and canteen services
In-house catering and availability of hygienic wholesome food for the patient and attendants obviates the need for the patient to search for sources for food. Patients receive customized meals for renal failure, liquid diets etc which are closely monitored by the dietician. Meals are also available for the attendants. In between diets can be ordered form the cafeteria.

We have the certificate of income tax exemption with the authorities under sub clause (b) of clause (ii) of provision to sub section (2) of section 17 of Income Tax Act 1961. This helps most employees to avoid double taxation.
ISO and Other Standardization Programs
The hospital is keenly interested in standardization of its services and has applied for ISO certification. It also plans for Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board of Hospitals and has started applying the first of the core standards necessary for the same.
